Apprenticeship Q&A
My names Lauren and I work as Axil’s Design and Marketing Assistant. In my current role, I assist in various design processes throughout the business for digital and print purposes. I indulge my experience in content creation by focusing on B2B marketing and working with the head of marketing to execute wider decisions and strategies within the business.
Prior to joining Axil, I embarked on a Level 3 Content Creation Apprenticeship instead of heading to university, like everyone else my age had. Through this apprenticeship, I was able to gain on the job experience, whilst learning more in a field of work that I was passionate about. However, on completion of this apprenticeship, I knew I wanted to enhance my marketing skillset and knowledge further – therefore, I chose QA’s Digital Marketing Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship as this supported my ambitions to do so.
My time at Axil so far has been exemplary and the support with my growth internally has been faultless. I was an employee at Axil for 11 months before starting my apprenticeship standard and thus have experienced life at Axil pre apprenticeship and find myself just as enthusiastic and passionate about my role as before!
I would be lying if I said it was easy to fit a full-time job, lectures, assignments, and a social life into a 24-hour day but it’s very much manageable! I control my own diary at work, so it is my responsibility to prioritise workload and ensure that the work is complete, and deadlines are met.
This one’s easy – 100% being able to earn and learn at the same time, without the debt! The commitment of university was always very daunting to me but with an apprenticeship, I get to experience the best of both worlds of being an employee AND university student at the same time.
Moving forward, I would love to not only excel my marketing skills, but develop my confidence and expertise to manage people too. I think this apprenticeship will allow me to over time, confidently delegate tasks within our marketing team as I gain a better understanding of basic marketing principles, strategy, and execution.
I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone wanting to take their knowledge, skills and behaviours to the next level in their career. Without a doubt, it is physically and mentally challenging but investing in my future is worth every second!
The university experience, despite being entirely remote, is pretty straight forward to understand. The support that I receive from my tutors, skills coach and manager ensure that the university experience is accommodating to my day role.
