The Axil approach

Axil site teams worked closely with the client’s Quality function to identify where recoverable stock was being lost and implement a structured recovery process. This meant improved reporting figures to demonstrate a tangible outcome for the customer.

Key actions included:
• Quarantining suspect scrap bags for inspection
• Introducing visual identification controls on picking lines
• Logging part numbers and original purchase values
• Returning verified usable components to warehouse stock
• Embedding daily Quality checks to validate recovered items

This created a joined-up operational process across site, quality, and warehouse teams, converting waste handling into structured stock recovery.

Benefits of Total Waste Management

Waste management has environmental and commercial benefits to your business. Done right, your waste costs can be reduced and
you can turn rubbish into revenue by extracting the best-possible value for your commodity waste materials.

Environmental benefits

The intervention also delivered measurable environmental improvements by reducing waste and avoiding unnecessary production.

  • Waste eliminated from disposal streams through recovery
  • Reduced CO₂ emissions via reuse vs new manufacturing
  • Lower material consumption through extended product life cycles
  • Reduced transport and processing impacts associated with waste disposal
  • Improved circular use of existing materials

This demonstrates how process optimisation directly supports carbon reduction through better use of existing resources.

Commercial benefits

The project delivered direct financial and operational value by recovering usable stock and reducing unnecessary procurement.

  • £324,000+ total value recovered across sites
  • 4,000+ components returned to inventory
  • Reduced replacement purchasing of usable parts
  • Improved inventory control and stock visibility
  • Annualised savings generation at site level

By improving control points within the process, value previously lost in waste streams was recovered back into the supply chain.
